The image appears in a video showing residents of a village in southern Lebanon attacking a UNIFIL patrol, puncturing the vehicle’s tires and attaching a Hezbollah flag. The review says there is no indication that UNIFIL troops placed the flag themselves; it also notes that dpa could not independently verify reports that the patrol was French.

Publisher’s rating:

The review says the image dates to late March 2019 and showed an Israeli airstrike on the office of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, not the October 20, 2024 strikes on al-Qard al-Hasan. It also says Israeli aircraft carried out strikes targeting the Lebanese institution and its branches that evening. (S1)

The review says open-source ship trackers showed MEGALOPOLIS crossed the Arabian Sea and reached Salalah, Oman, at 1 a.m. on October 19, 2024, hours after the announcement. It also reports that the ship’s owner and UKMTO had not reported an attack on one of its ships or any vessel attack in the listed waters during the preceding 48 hours.
