Dead bodies of brave policemen killed in Gadchiroli Naxal attack were wrapped in cardboard boxes.

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns a photo said to show the bodies of policemen killed in the Gadchiroli Naxal attack wrapped in cardboard boxes. FACTLY identifies the bodies in the boxes as military personnel who died in a 2017 Tawang helicopter crash, not policemen killed in Gadchiroli. It therefore concludes that the photo was being presented with the wrong event attached to it. To check the image’s provenance, FACTLY reports running it through Google Reverse Image Search and finding the same image in a Hindustan Times article. The review connects that earlier use to a 2017 exchange about the handling of the crash victims’ remains: it quotes an Army public-information account describing their recovery and transport, followed by an assurance about arrangements for carrying fallen soldiers’ remains. The review says the Gadchiroli post was recirculating an older photo, rather than showing the claimed attack.
