Image of CISF soldier injured in an attack by TMC workers

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The post claimed that a photograph of an injured CISF soldier showed an attack by TMC workers. The review identifies the image as depicting ASI SP Sharma, a CISF officer injured at the CISF camp at Bhimakanali in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, rather than in the West Bengal poll violence discussed in the post. The investigation says a reverse image search led to a Hindi regional news article that had reported the same image and described a langur attack. It also reports that India Today contacted CISF sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar in Dhanbad. Kumar identified the person in the photograph as ASI Sharma and said langurs attacked him on April 9 at about 6:30 p.m., while he was posted in the BK-2 area at Baghmara’s Bharat Coking Coal Limited plant. On that evidence, the image does not substantiate the post’s allegation about TMC workers.
