Russische tank draagt de letter "Q".
Publisher’s rating: De foto is bewerkt.
The claim concerned a picture shared on Facebook that appeared to show a Russian tank marked with a Q, interpreted by some users as a reference to QAnon. The investigation traced the picture to an original image held by Alamy, which the review says came from the Russian news agency Tass. That original depicts a Russian tank on Crimea on 24 February, the first day of the invasion. Comparing the circulated image with the original, the review found that the marking on the front of the tank had been altered: the original shows a Z, not a Q. It also notes that a Z remains visible on the tank’s side in both versions. The review says the screenshot containing the image itself acknowledges that it is manipulated. The post’s surrounding context also matters. The screenshot was from a 31 March post that appeared to come from anonup. Its wording included “imagine,” which the review says suggested a wish for Q to appear on Russian tanks, rather than an assertion that it already did. The review reports no evidence that Q was among the symbols used on Russian military vehicles.

The Facebook post attributed to Congo News + claimed that nine Chinese aircraft had entered Taiwan’s defense zone to annex the island, taking advantage of attention on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The dpa review examined both the post’s image and the claim about Chinese aircraft, and found that the image did not depict the alleged incursion. It showed four helicopters, not the military aircraft described in the post. To trace the image, the review says it used reverse-image search and located the original in a Reuters photo gallery. The photograph shows Taiwanese AH-64 Apache helicopters firing during a military exercise at Pingtung on May 30, 2019. The exercise simulated an invasion of the island by China’s People’s Liberation Army; the image therefore shows Taiwanese forces rehearsing a defense scenario, not Chinese forces invading Taiwan. The review also distinguishes reported Chinese aircraft activity in Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ) from an invasion or entry into Taiwan’s national airspace. It reports that Chinese military aircraft regularly enter the ADIZ, but explains that these zones are larger than national airspace and cannot be treated as equivalent to it. It cites Taiwanese reporting of more than 2,900 incursions in 2020 and 149 Chinese military aircraft flights between September 16, 2020, and the end of August 2021. Those figures describe repeated ADIZ activity; they do not establish the post’s claim that the pictured event was an invasion to annex Taiwan.
The claim concerns a photo of a Russian military helicopter bearing the Cyrillic words “на Берлин” (“nach Berlin”), presented as a helicopter used in current fighting in Ukraine. The investigation confirms that the visible words can be translated as “nach Berlin,” but finds that the photo does not establish a current deployment: another marking identifies an earlier designation of the Russian air force. The review describes two sets of visible details. The helicopter bears the markings “RF91165” and a red star, and also the words “ВBС РОССИИ.” According to the review, that was the designation of the Russian air force up to 2015; it was then renamed the Russian Aerospace Forces, with equipment marked “BKC РОССИИ.” The review contrasts this older marking with a photo distributed by the Ukrainian army of a helicopter apparently shot down recently, which shows the later designation. The photo’s provenance also undercuts the claim that it depicts a current battlefield event. The review says the image includes a registration, photo number 21351 and the address RussianPlanes.Net. It found the photo on that site, where it was credited to Andrej Proskurin and listed as uploaded in 2017 and taken in Voronezh, Russia. The exact date the photograph was taken is not known, so the evidence does not establish when it was made; it does show that the image circulated online years before the claimed current use.

The review examines a Facebook graphic contrasting Barack Obama and Donald Trump: it claims Obama had bombs dropped every 20 minutes throughout his eight years in office, while Trump never did. The review says the post gives no source for the Obama figure. It identifies a possible origin for the statistic, but emphasizes that the figure refers to a single year, not Obama’s full presidency. The review also documents why the claim that Trump never used bombs is misleading. The United States remained involved in armed conflicts during his presidency, including the Afghanistan war, in which US forces had fought since 2001 and airstrikes were used. It also describes Trump’s order to kill Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in a drone attack in Baghdad around the turn of 2019–2020. The review further reports that Trump continued and expanded the drone-strike strategy used under Obama. It notes that armed drones can fire missiles as well as drop bombs. Taken together, this evidence contradicts the absolute claim that Trump never used bombs, while the Obama statistic is presented with a misleading timeframe.
