Visuals showing Palestinians faking injuries and orchestrating a funeral procession amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns two videos presented as evidence that Palestinians were faking injuries and staging a funeral during the Israel-Palestine conflict. FACTLY’s review says both sets of visuals were unrelated to that conflict, but for different reasons: one shows makeup being applied for a film project, and the other shows Jordanian men pretending to hold a funeral to evade COVID-19 restrictions. For the first video, the review describes a reverse-image search of screenshots that led to a news report containing identical footage. It identifies the person shown as Palestinian makeup artist Mariam Salah, creating injuries on actors for a project undertaken by the French charity Doctors of the World. Thus, the footage depicts film makeup—not Palestinians faking injuries to elicit sympathy in the conflict. For the second video, the review says reverse-image searches of screenshots returned multiple reports showing the same visuals. Those reports identify the procession as a 2020 incident involving young Jordanian men attempting to circumvent their country’s COVID-19 lockdown rules by pretending to hold a funeral. The review therefore concludes that neither video supports the claim that the scenes depict conduct amid the Israel-Palestine conflict.
