Publisher’s rating:

The claim concerns the October 19, 2023 report that a U.S. warship intercepted missiles and drones launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea, with Israel suggested as their intended target. The review says the Pentagon spokesperson, Patrick Ryder, stated that the target could not be determined with certainty, while noting that Israel was a possibility. The investigation’s conclusion was that the weapons were not aimed at Israel or the U.S. warship: it identified the target as Yemeni government forces in the Fifth Military Region, on Midi Island in northwestern Yemen. (S1) To support that account, the review cites two military sources who spoke to Al-Masdar Online. It also reports that Houthi forces issued no statement about the incident, and notes that the attack coincided with a visit by Yemeni army chief of staff Saghir bin Aziz to the region. The review cites photographs and posts by bin Aziz showing him with senior army officers on the day of the incident and during subsequent meetings and inspection visits there. (S1) The review also cites military expert Ali al-Dhahab, who described the attack as directed internally and timed with bin Aziz’s visit, and analyst Mohammed Abdullah al-Kumaim, who said the target was the army chief and military leaders on Yemeni islands in the northern Red Sea. These sources support the review’s account of a local military target, rather than an attack directed at Israel. The excerpt does not provide independent documentation of the interception itself or identify the specific source material used by the two military sources. (S1)

The video circulated after the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, presented as evidence that violence in Gaza was staged. It shows a boy lying on the ground, a camera above him, and people adjusting his arms. The investigation says this interpretation strips the clip of its earlier context: the footage predates the latest escalation and shows a film production, not staged violence from that conflict. The boy was an actor in “Empty place,” a 2022 short film about events involving Ahmed Manasra in 2015. The review describes tracing the clip’s TikTok provenance. Its watermark and username led investigators to an archived version; although the original account was no longer available under that name, the video remained online under a different account name with the same video identification number. The surviving TikTok entry was dated 21 April 2022, well before the October 2023 claim’s setting. April 2022 datiert.”) The identification is supported by comparing the footage with the short film: the actor’s clothing and position match, as do the movements of nearby people, and the film includes a final overhead view of the boy. The review also reports that the film’s director confirmed to Reuters and France 24 Observers in 2022 that the circulating scene was filmed during production. Taken together, the dated video, visual correspondence, and director’s confirmation establish a behind-the-scenes explanation for this specific clip—not evidence that violence in Gaza was staged.

Children Genocide in Palestine!!(Video)

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The post paired a video of a child crying beside a deceased child with an image of many deceased children, claiming they showed Palestinian children killed during the current Israel-Palestine war. Fact Crescendo examined both visuals separately and reported that neither depicted that war. Its conclusion was based on identifying earlier appearances and reported origins of the footage and image, rather than on the post’s framing of them. For the video, the review says a reverse-image search on a keyframe led to the same video on a Facebook account in 2019, while a keyword search found it on a website in 2018. The website report identified the scene as an incident in Idlib, Syria: a boy crying over his deceased brother, who had died in an air strike. That earlier provenance contradicts the claim that this video showed a child in Palestine during the current war. For the still image, the review says a reverse-image search found it on UPI News, where it was identified as children killed in a toxic-gas attack in Ghouta, Syria. The review dates that incident to 2013 and notes that The Guardian reported that year that the UN had confirmed the chemical-weapons attack. The post therefore reused visuals from reported Syrian incidents—a video from Idlib and an image from Ghouta—as if they documented events in Palestine during a different conflict.
