A composited picture showing images of the deforested hill and of the green forest hill was circulated on social media last week. The picture implied that the green forest at the hill was deforested in 2023 after it was seen hill covered by green forest in 2009. This post has been shared and reacted to with mixed comments by Facebook users. However, after running a Google Reverse Image search, it proves the above claim is misleading.

The post under review presented a comparison suggesting that a green hill shown in 2009 had become deforested by 2023. Fact Crescendo Cambodia says it investigated the images after they circulated on Facebook, including a post by a page called “Sharon” on February 25, 2023, and found that the comparison was misleading. The investigation used Google Reverse Image Search to trace the images’ earlier appearances. The review reports that the deforested-hill image had appeared on The Sun’s website on May 5, 2019. It describes that image as showing a Brazilian mountainous area that had been destroyed in 2001—not as a photograph of the hill in 2023. The review also says it found a forested image on the Facebook page Instituto Terra, posted in January 2019, and identifies that image as showing the area after it had been replanted. The key omitted context is the chronology: the two pictures do not document the same place before and after a sudden loss of forest between 2009 and 2023. According to the review, the deforested scene dates to 2001, and the forested scene shows regrowth by 2019 after a Brazilian couple spent 20 years replanting the area. The review therefore identifies the comparison’s dates and implied sequence as misleading.

Publisher’s rating: Op de foto is een weerfenomeen te zien: "mixing fog". Dit ontstaat door specifieke weersomstandigheden. Windmolens beïnvloeden met deze mistvorming het weer niet op noemenswaardige schaal. Daarnaast zijn windmolens wel degelijk milieuvriendelijker dan conventionele energiebronnen als kolen- en gascentrales.

Publisher’s rating: True, technically: 292 Conservative MPs did not “aye” a vote to allow sewage dumping by water companies in the country’s rivers and coasts for the next 15 years. However, they did vote on updated environmental targets on January 25 that included a target of an 80% reduction in phosphates in rivers by 2038, which does indirectly allow the continuation of sewage disposal – an objective that the Lib Dems have labelled “pathetic”.

Die bedraagt zeker geen 2.000 euro per maand: in Nederland is de bovengrens volgens XR 170 euro per maand en 1.700 euro per jaar. De bewering lijkt afkomstig uit een artikel van de Telegraaf, maar dat artikel - op zichzelf ongenuanceerd - is in de Facebookpost bewerkt.

Publisher’s rating: Die Behauptung, die EU plane Häuser-Enteignungen, ist falsch. Die Aussagen beziehen sich auf einen Gesetzesvorschlag der EU-Kommission. Um die Klimaziele zu erreichen, sollen unter anderem die Treibhausgasemissionen im Gebäudesektor mittels energetischen Sanierungen reduziert werden. Dass dabei Enteignung von Häusern geplant sei oder ein Nutzungsverbot droht, steht nicht im Vorschlag. Das bestätigte die EU-Kommission auch auf Nachfrage. Das Gesetzgebungsverfahren läuft derweil noch.
