The review finds the claimed increases are overstated: NSIDC data show Arctic sea ice extent was 472,000 km² higher on January 1, 2024, than a year earlier, while Antarctic sea ice was 1.377 million km² higher. It also explains that comparing two individual years does not establish a climate trend; long-term observations show a marked Arctic decline, while the Antarctic trend is less clear.

Der Einsatz von Chemikalien wäre genehmigungspflichtig. Derartige Anträge oder Einsätze sind allerdings nicht bekannt, heißt es vom Umweltbundesamt.
