The claim

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has issued a new initiative encouraging “millions of cats and dogs worldwide to be slaughtered” to reduce the “carbon pawprint” created as a result of eating meat.

Rating

False. The WEF has not issued a plan encouraging the slaughter of millions of pets to combat climate change. The claim misrepresents the articles it references and an apparent screenshot of a purported tweet from the verified WEF Twitter account used here appears to be fabricated – no evidence the supposed tweet ever existed can be found.
