The claim

Is it unusual for Hyalomma ticks to "aggressively" run toward hosts, and is it the result of genetic modification, as some users on social media suggested?

Rating

False. The genus Hyalomma was scientifically documented as early as 1844 by German entomologist Carl Ludwig Koch, who noted their ability to hunt. More scientists studied their ability to sense and chase target hosts, long before genetic modification was discovered in the 1970s. The « aggressive » behavior of Hyalomma ticks does not require biological engineering and has been observed over a century before genetic modification was discovered.
